While most all skin types can be treated with chemical peels, we take special care to ensure this treatment is also safe for darker skin. It is an effective treatment for a variety of skin concerns, including smoothing fine lines and wrinkles, treating acne, brown spots and pores. If you are hoping for a youthful, healthy, and radiant appearance, a chemical peel is for you.
Stop all topical treatments three days prior to your appointment – this includes prescriptions, topical medications, such as Differin, Tazorac, bleaching creams and retinols.
Your skin might be sensitive after your chemical peel.
You should avoid waxing and exfoliating for one week prior to your chemical peel.
Gently wash your face with a mild soap and use a gentle moisturizer both morning and night for the first 3 days after your peel. Once your skin begins to peel, avoid picking at the flaking skin (this can cause hyperpigmentation). Your skin may be sensitive after your chemical peel. Avoid sun exposure for the first week and it is necessary to be diligent about wearing sunscreen daily to protect your skin.
Chemical peels can be done every 3 to 4 weeks, depending on your individual needs and skincare goals. For best results, chemical peels should be done in a series. Talk with your esthetician about the proper skincare regimen to ensure you are optimizing the benefits of your chemical peels and overall health of your skin.
